You have just taken over as the Director of the PMO. In your first few days, you meet with one of your project managers to discuss one of his projects and failed compliance standards. This is the third time his project has been non-compliant and you need to deal with this issue so that it does not happen again. During the conversation, the project manager tells you that a few resources who knew the compliance needs were replaced by their functional manager with new resources. He says that if you have an issue with the failures, you should talk with the functional manager for giving him bad resources.
How do you respond to this accusation?
Remind the project manager that while all stakeholders should be transferring knowledge throughout the project, it is ultimately the project manager’s responsibility to ensure that knowledge is transferred appropriately and understood during the project
Feedback: Ultimately, transfer of knowledge on the project is the responsibility of the project manager. To ensure all resources know the compliance requirements, the project manager should cover the requirements with the entire team, ensuring personal knowledge of the required performance of their work in terms of scope, schedule, cost, and compliance
