Sunlight is important for photosynthesis because it provides the energy needed for plants to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. During this process, chlorophyll in the chloroplasts absorbs sunlight, which powers the chemical reactions that synthesize food for the plant. Without sunlight, photosynthesis would not occur, and plants would be unable to grow or produce oxygen.
