Sensory (afferent): neurons sends messages to the central nervous system

Motor (efferent): neurons sends messages to the muscles
– Autonomic NS: involuntary actions such as heart rate, digestion, & respiration
– Somatic NS: voluntary actions such as the movement of the limbs
