The Chaco Project was significant in the study of Chaco Canyon, a major center of Ancestral Puebloan culture. This project included surveying and excavating sites within the canyon, revealing important insights into the architecture, society, and history of the people who lived there. By surveying all of Chaco Canyon and excavating 70 sites, researchers were able to gather data that helped understand the complexity of this ancient civilization and its extensive road systems leading out of the canyon. This multidisciplinary approach has contributed to a greater appreciation of the significance of Chaco Canyon in the broader context of American history.
