Here was a race of beings able to take apart their bodies at will — eyes, arms, and maybe more, all without giving it a second thought! My knowledge of biology came in handy, at this point. Obviously they were simple beings, single-celled, perhaps some sort of early, primitive things. Beings that are no more developed than starfish. Starfish can do the same thing, you know.
