For example, “I can’t believe I’m so stupid” becomes “I’m smart enough to figure this out.”
It’s also important to be mindful of the language you use when talking to yourself. Avoid using absolutes such as “never” or “always.” These words set you up for disappointment and make it harder to see things objectively. Instead of beating yourself up for making a mistake, try to view it as a learning opportunity. Remind yourself that everyone makes mistakes and that you can learn from yours.
Finally, don’t forget to show yourself some compassion. Be understanding and forgiving with yourself as you would be with a friend.
