IS-318 is a course offered by FEMA that aims to assist participants in undertaking the hazard mitigation plan development process and help federal and state plan reviewers interpret regulations.
The course is aimed at plan writers and reviewers and teaches them to identify and understand the requirements of the Stafford Act and mitigation planning regulations, use FEMA’s multi-hazard mitigation planning guidance to develop a hazard mitigation plan, identify hazards and estimate potential losses, develop a mitigation strategy, initiate the plan review process, and understand terminology.
The course is designed for local or Indian Tribal government officials, emergency management agencies, and personnel from various fields such as public works, public health, and human services. Private or nonprofit organization representatives may also participate if they have a role in developing mitigation plans or participating in mitigation planning processes. The course has no prerequisites, takes 12 hours to complete, and offers 1.2 CEUs.
