This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to use Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) to determine potential flood risks for a specific property and decide whether it should be protected against flood loss.
Participants will learn about different types of flood maps, understand the elements on the map, and demonstrate how to use a flood map to obtain information for a specific property location.
The course objectives are to recognize various flood map formats, elements, and symbols shown on FIRMs and how to read and use FIRMs to identify flood hazards.
The primary audience for this course is local Floodplain Administrators. Still, it will be available to the whole community, and resources and references will be provided to mitigate gaps in user knowledge.
